The Canterbury Earthquake - The Aftermath

The 4 September 2010 earthquake in Canterbury caused extensive damage to the city of Christchurch. Is the post-quake retention of heritage architecture feasible and who pays? How can damaged homes be retrofitted for safety in earthquakes? What opportunities and risks are there in redeveloping the inner city sites? How can we design public space to better provide places for people to congregate and shelter after a disaster?

These and other issues will be discussed by experts in structural and fire engineering, conservation architecture and landscape and urban design from Victoria's School of Architecture.

Tuesday 16 November - 6.00 pm
Rutherford House, lecture Theatre 2
