The geotechnical investigations that have been undertaken or are currently underway after the 4 September earthquake are summarised in a spreadsheet maintained by Environment Canterbury. The spreadsheet aims to improve knowledge sharing and to minimise duplication of work. The 26 Jan map has been collated by GNS Science using field data collected by the University of Canterbury, University of Auckland, Lincoln University, Environment Canterbury and consultants, as well as data mapped from satellite imagery and aerial photography by GNS Science. The map is still in draft form and some areas (particularly rural areas) have not been verified or field checked. The map should be used with caution and at the user's risk. Any inconsistencies with observations from the field, or feedback, should be sent to Dougal Townsend at GNS Science (d.townsend@gns.cri.nz) so that the map can be amended.
